carberry as GPS

Postby dave08 » Tue Dec 01, 2015 4:48 pm

Hello. I' just found this site today, so still not aware of all carberry's potencial.
I drive a 2005 saab 9-3 with the non touch display with built in GPS. It's very very outdated, in fact it is not working anymore, because the DVD is cracked and I can't seem to find another to replace not in dealers or even e-bay.

I've seen a few videos of people installing a an android system and using the builtin display, so I was thinking if someone already tried to use Raspberry for this on another Saab. Then I found this site which seems to be the best for this purpose.
I know that this is a very specific system, but I would like to ask if someone thinks this would be possible. I don't understand electronics.
Thanks and regards.

Hello,
Android doesn't work with Raspberry.
You have to find an interface that allows you to enter in the car display with the VIDEO signal, (but a similar interface for the SAAB 2005 is very difficult to find), so you can use raspberry using the app called NAVIT.
Otherwise, i suggest you to buy a new radio. :-)

thanks,
best regards

Thanks for the reply. After many search, I've also found that installing a new radio will be the easiest option. It won't be easy though, as the car has a 1 din radio...
Thanks anyway!

Hello,
to solve the issue you have to choose a 1 DIN radio with COMPOSITE VIDEO INPUT,

available for further info,
