Hello,
to obtain a correct communication with your Carberry borad, you need to configurate the operating system.
Please, consult the following link:
http://www.carberry.it/wiki/carberry:rp ... n_yourself

or please download our prepared distro called CARBIAN - JESSIE at the following link:
http://www.carberry.it/download.php

To answer to your last question, the Raspberry board must be powered by the carberry connector and NOT directly.
thanks,
best regards.

I faced the same problem, so may be this could help because it fixed my problem.
If you are using Raspberry Pi 3, Carberry is not recognized as AMA0 (that is Bluetooth device) but as S0. If you want to communicate with Carberry you cannot open directly serial port in order to talk with Carberry. You need to open a TCP connection to 127.0.0.1:7070.

PS: Very Very Very important, you cannot power Raspberry pi by 5V micro USB port. You need to power only Carberry connecting Red and Yellow/Blue wire to +12V and Black wire to ground.
